I am just back from a 10-day vacation in Costa Rica, our first time there. Rich and I had an amazing trip — all the planning, reading travel bloggers’ posts, and vetting their recommendations paid off. It was the perfect balance of activity and adventure (5 days hiking and exploring in the rain and cloud forests) and 5 days of relaxation on the tropical beaches of Guanacaste — the northern Costa Rican Pacific coast.
While I am still processing what I gained from the trip — I’m sure I will write more. But upon returning home, I thought I’d post this poem that came to me while literally in a tree house in the Monteverde Cloud Forest.
As you read my poem (see below), you may listen to this recording I made while listening to the orchestral birdsong of the cloud forest of Monteverde from the porch of our tree house one early morning while meditating with the birds. Enjoy!
And here is my poem:
BIRDSONG
I am the bird song I am here. Happy Notes float….. float …. high in the treetops They lift me Anchor me In the NOW They sing to me Hello! ….I am here! ….Now, I am here! …Listen! I dance among the notes listening for their sweet song I know not where they are yet they are closer than I realize Immersed in the cloud forest Above the canopies I face my fear Swaying on a bridge Fixed yet swinging In the air Breathe I remind myself Be here now Among the birds High above Resisting With each breath Each step the heaviness of the fear of what could happen falls below me My breath Keeps me light Floating in trust ….in …..each …..step Bringing me closer To what is I touch a deep connection within and with what surrounds me I become the sky the wind the air Free for the moment I arrive. I am here. Truly With …. in and … with you May you, too Be free Pause Be silent Listen You will find Your own song And float along with the notes of your own Birdsong
Laurie, Thanks for sharing the wonderful bird song and poem. Beautiful! Happy Rich a you had an amazing trip. Welcome home.
